I confess it's summer and I'm clearly losing track of what day it is. It was Friday yesterday, right? Did I write anything confession-wise? No, I did not. Why? Because Friday came and went without me noticing. Plus I'm in the Land of Slow Internet Connection and just checking emails takes ages and drives me crazy. I also have to confess I've been busier than usual and this business of being busy makes time move much faster. And that's got nothing to do with the speed of internet connection.

Here in the Land of Slow Internet Connection everything is a little different than back in the UK. First of all the temperature is in the region of 30 degrees and is KILLING ME!!! My blood pressure is at its all time lowest and no amount of coffee can help it. I hate this heat. I miss rain.

I've been away from blogosphere - and pretty much pen and paper - for a couple of days now and today I felt sudden urge to sit down and start writing. It seems to me that writing has become a part of my life and I haven't even noticed when that happened. I wonder if this need for creativity is a natural human instinct, a kind of religion (or faith, if religion is not a word you like to use). If it's a higher power, magic, spirit in the world and myself...
From Recovering the Sense of Faith: 'Each of us has an inner dream that we can unfold if we will just have the courage to admit what it is'
Perhaps writing is a way of saying 'I believe'. It's like I'm a small god and with my writing I'm creating a small universe (my own little planet with a rose, a sheep and lots of volcanoes that need cleaning). I realise that my universe is not always great and I'm aware of all the odds and fears when creating it and of all that may or may not happen, but I will keep writing, because after all I have faith in it. Despite all my fears I still take part in the creative world that many have chosen not to or to overlook. I believe that this is what I'm supposed to be doing and even thought I don't know where it'll take me I believe that I'm heading in the right direction.

I haven't posted any poetry lately because I thought that's not very popular nowadays and also that it's too serious for a blog and makes me sound like I'm fifteen years older than I actually am (and blog camp experience and collective shock at my real age proved that I was right to think that) but in actual fact I still read it. So poetry is a part of me. And this blog is me/mine. So I should keep posting poetry. So here's a poem that I read lately and absolutely loved, it's so true it hit all the right notes and made me a little teary.
Maya Angelou
Touched By An Angel
We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.
Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
from our souls.
We are weaned from our timidity
In the flush of love's light
we dare be brave
And suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love
which sets us free.

Love this poem. Thanks for posting it.
It is a lovely poem. I can see why you would be moved by it.

You might be surprised at how many people read poetry and actually have a favorite poet, Polly. At least, I was surprised when I wrote something similar to your remark a few weeks ago. Poetry has not gone out of fashion as much as some, such as yours truly, had thought.
In the very end, poetry is probably the only writing that REALLY matters, is really worth reading. Keep posting poetry!
I love the Touched By An Angel.
I did just have a birthday so maybe it is the fact that I am fast approaching 40 that makes me also love to put poetry on my blog every now and again! I love the poem by Maya Angelou ~ I think I will have to share it on my blog ~ to pass it on! Thank you so much for sharing the poem . . . I am glad you did!!!
Just so you don't have a shock when you come back, I'll let you know that it's over 30 degrees in the UK too and heatwave alerts have been issued! I KNOW! I'm in shock myself! At the heat and the surely unnecessary alerts!
Please, keep posting poetry, and of course, keep writing (did you try writing in the mornings?)
First of all, I just realised that you were in Krakow (yup, I'm a slow as your internet connection sometimes). Secondly, why the fear to admit that you like poetry, that you enjoy reading poetry? May I remind you how awesome you are? And that's part of your awesomeness.
As a lifelong Maya Angelou fan, I truly appreciated that poem. Many thanks and have a splendid weekend and week.
Greetings from London.
Thanks everyone for your great, great comments!
And B - I did try the morning writing session once, I was half conscious for the rest of the day... but I will try again because the actual writing was very good. Only a whole hour would be waaay too ambitious for me!
"The world of slow internet connection" Isn't it funny how we have become so reliant on technology and the internet these days.
I like the poetry you post too. The only poetry I read is though blogland and I quit enjoy reading the poetry that blog friends feel important enough to post.
And as far as being uncool, well lets just say, I started online gaming this weekend .... say no more.
Hope your hols going well. Sounds like you are confused though..... missing rain? I'd love some 30 degree heat right now.
I am having quite a hectic week(s) too! I agree with what everyone above has posted on the poetry, it's good stuff!
Good luck with your writing and hope you can have a more relaxing week this week!
You write so beautifully and with such thought, I wish I was smart like this. Lovely poem, I rarely read poetry but thought I'd dip my toe in the water since you posted it. Guess what? I loved it! x
